About ETAT Plus

Equipping the next generation of Liberia's paediatric health workers

Emergency Triage, Assessment and Treatment (ETAT) Plus is more athan a workshop. It is a way of caring for sick children all the way from their arrival at the health facility to the point of discharge, covering the most common types of emergencies facing children. These include respiratory distress, circulatory emergencies, convulsions and many more. The training provides a strong focus on malnutrition and newborn conditions.

The training workshops operate over 1 week, with rigorous assessments for participants, with the strongest participants being given the opportunity to receive further mentoring as facilitators or as champions in their own facilities.

Our Story

ETAT Plus in Liberia came from humble beginnings as a 3 day workshop at ELWA hospital in 2019. As the knowledge and skillset led to improved patient outcomes, the workshops expanded. In February 2020, a new partnership with County Health Teams was established leading to further workshops taking place throughout the country.

In July 2025 the new ETAT plus training hub was established at the Jesus Loves Me Children's Center.

In 2026, a faculty of 20 predominantly Liberian trainers exists and over 600 Liberian health workers have undergone training. There is a plan to carry out workshops and identify local champions in every county in Liberia.
